Brexit Talk 1: Sovereignty and the European Court of Justice
The Brexit referendum campaign was fought with the battle cry of taking back control. This event discussed how sovereignty will be affected by Brexit and what the role of the European Court of Justice might have over the UK after it has left the European Union. It consisted of a round table discussion in front of an audience of students and staff at Royal Holloway, University of London, as well as members of the wider public, who were encouraged to ask questions during the discussion. The panellists comprised Royal Holloway's Dr David Yuratich (School of Law), Dr Giacomo Benedetto (Jean Monnet Chair, Politics and International Relations), and Brendan Donnelly, Director of the Federal Trust think tank and a former Conservative MEP. This was the first of four talks about different aspects of Brexit, organized in the early part of 2018 by Royal Holloway's Jean Monnet Chair and the following academic departments: Economics, Law, and Politics and International Relations. The event was co-funded by the EU's Erasmus+ programme.
